Drug cheating at the 2017 IAAF World Championships: how best to counter this possibility : Comments

By Chris Lewis, published 16/8/2017

As the IAAF president Lord Coe acknowledged, he could not guarantee that the 2017 World Athletics Championships will be drug free on the basis that 'people will always seek to cheat'.

There are two distinct aspects to drugs and sport. The first and most notably obvious, is the infatuation with the damage to sport itself by “drug cheats”.

The other, seldom mentioned, is the damage to the athlete by the use of drugs.
This should come under the heading of “occupational health and safety”.

If the issue were to be broached from an OHandS perspective, then all athletes (inclusive of children's sports), could be regulated intelligently. ATM nothing is credible in this field!
