Reflections on reflections: Australian public policy, history and institutions : Comments

By Sean Jacobs, published 12/7/2017

The outcome at Lambing Flat, like the judicial result at Myall Creek, is an early example that the rule of law would not be selectively applied based on race.

Thanks to the author, it was a pleasure to read this article. I see civics and a deeper appreciation of English literature as helpful too.

The pages of history once written can never ever be erased or altered!

Nor can we have a rerun or make future generations pay for what was done by those who came before! Be it the highland clearances or the transport of, bowed down by iron chains, transported (political) prisoners of Mother England! (POME) [Pomy]

Those that survived, arguably the most rigorous sea journeys in living memory, with a massive, monumental mortality rate! Had no other choice but to do what they needed to, including kill or be killed to survive!

Including, not worth the paper it was written on verbal history, with the use of hunting dogs (Dingoes) fire sticks, infanticide/genocide/cannibalism or firearms!

If we are going to regurgitate a colour coded history, we, today's generation, had no part whatsoever in! At least make sure we include all the (Professional) victims then fully compensate the entirety of their offspring!

When you done that, an easier task beckons?

Dig a hole about fifty metres above the high tide mark, get a bucket and empty the entire ocean into it, one bucket at a time!

Fine words, fine sentiments; but of little use to a society that has already been trashed beyond recognition by the persistent Left with no resistance from the cowardly conservatives.

What is this article saying? That in the past, socially sensitive members of the rich elite handed down decisions that went against their insulated privilege? I suppose it was brave of them and I suppose it challenged, but didn't seriously affect, their lucrative careers. However, their moral courage was not enough to overturn the social injustices and genocides that led to their decisions - all of which remained intact, due to the class privileges they enjoyed.

Nothing much has changed. Rich people with power and influence are still the arbitrators of decisions that influence the lives of those without power and influence. Our Prime Minister is one of Australia's richest men. What on earth can he possibly know about poverty and social injustice?

I think the date of Australia Day should be Changed, so that certain groups can't push their invasion day politics.

Also if it's truth they are wanting, why is it not ok to also mention, that the British culture
that arrived that day, bought with them the advancements of a society that was the most
advanced in the world. In fact the beautiful, cultured European buildings, organised towns and cities, theatres, beautiful artworks, literature, libraries, orchestral music.
medical inventions beautiful clothing, gardens were bestowed on the country by the British culture.

My grandson stood up in class and said there was nothing here when we got here.
And for speaking that truth, that all that you see before you apart from the wilderness itself, was built and invented by European culture.
He was called racist and sent outside. I'm sorry but he was sent outside for stating a fact. Schools are supposed to teach fact not ideology.
I'm willing to allow the truth, that to the natives, we would be thought of as invaders.
And I'm ok with the schools teaching this in class, as long as they allow the other
truth, that the aborigines were a Stone Age culture and that the British Empire was centuries ahead of them, at that time. I'm not saying now, with aborigines gaining Uni education they have now caught up in knowledge and ability.

But don't teach my children and grandchildren,to be ashamed of their heritage by only
allowing the idea that we invaded, when in fact they have all those other attributes
that I listed above to be proud of in their culture.
It's not supremisist thinking, it is fact. It is true in other words, so why is a young boy sent outside for being proud of a wonderful, advanced culture.
And I really do mean culture here. Because Europe and Britain, exude beautiful culture everywhere.
The beautiful old European cities in Europe, Australia has inherited a lot of that culture
with the addition of aboriginal art and a uniquely Australian flavour.
