Is there value in media notoriety? : Comments

By Neryl East, published 16/6/2017

The recent public debate over whether Schapelle Corby's exit from Bali was fascinating or nauseating fuelled anew an ongoing question.

As memory serves. Miss Corby's case was both controversial and a travesty from the day she landed in Bali! With checked in luggage that weighed several kilograms heavier on arrival?

The sealed evidence marijuana lighter when presented at trial?

The evidence was thoroughly compromised by the number of fingerprints and DNA added by the "investigating keystone cops.

Had this case been tried here on the factual evidence, she would have walked.

Moreover, a critical CCTV baggage room camera inoperative?

Within weeks of the verdict/sentence, Brisbane baggage handlers were reportedly found using luggage to move illicit drugs!

When asked, is this yours, even blind freddy, could see she was confirming the luggage was hers! Not necessarily the illicit contents!

Because she was young, beautiful and eye candy, the scrambling media couldn't get enough of her, with many finding her guilty on the flimsiest of unsubstantiated sensationalized evidence, their vulture like interest gave to her case.

When asked at the end of her trial, by the waiting vultures trying to look like impartial media, what she wanted from the Australian government, was, help me!

And exactly what you'd expect from a highly traumatized young woman shocked out her brain and thrown to the wolves by a government too timid to go into bat for a citizen, who ought to have been found not guilty on clearly, not proven grounds?

And regardless of her unproven guilt or innocence!

One also recalls the media involvement and trial by sensationalizing media, when an innocent woman was tried and condemned, because a dingo got her baby!

Time to let this now older wiser lady to go, and ignore the fact she may earn a few dollars from the imposed on her by the media, alleged notoriety!

She has done more time, than the paid for crime if actual, would have merited! Well past time to get off her case!

You know what? It's not what the media do report on, it's what they don't report on!
Taking the ABC as an example, and the coverage of the Gilkard ban of the live cattle trade overnight. Cows were rendered more important than people, in their lack of reporting on the actual damage the knee jerk policy created among exporters in the north. That's wrong focus.
Investigative journalism appears dead in the water, so where is the real point of the media I ask?
Generally it's more dishonest than the insignificant advertising rag that lands on a front lawn disguised as a newspaper, weekly for free.
Or a lopsided ideological terrorist rag called the Australian. Or a left leaning Labor lackey, in the form of the SMH.
Or Chanel 10 which has deservedly gone broke from lack of support from anybody from any side!
MSM? Give me the Internet where I can control the content according to my own bias!
