Nobody but nobody honours the commitments of a predecessor! Where that not so, we would by now be seeing a two state solution and agreed permanent boundaries as our reality!

So, stop already, with the mischievous, vexatious, disingenuous critiquing other folk's honour, when Israel's manifestly mendacious example shows such agreement, even verbal ones, are not worth the paper they're written on!

Donald needs a real ally in his corner, so no matter how unpalatable, expect our already agreed, Australia's refugee deal with the US, to be honoured, as an arm twisted, done deal.

Commitments made by the President and Congress - as in the case of the Bush commitments to Israel - have always been followed by their predecessors until Obama came on the scene.

Obama''s refugee swap "agreement" with Australia on the contrary is not in writing, vague and imprecise and made without Congress backing or imprimatur. Trump would have every right to ditch it.

However I too believe Trump should do some kind of refugee swap with Australia but it will be on his terms far different from whatever Obama supposedly proposed.

Trump also needs to reaffirm the Bush commitments to Israel. We may hear more of this when Netanyahu visits the White House on 15 February.
