Finally, the IPA report notes " In the private sector, it is standard
for full-time employees to work a reasonable amount of overtime as part of their salary package." As a matter of principle this is not fair. But, to be honest the IPA report should have noted that in many APS departments executive level staff are unable to claim overtime or time off in lieu. That is the result of earlier bargaining. But then again, what would Lane and Paterson know about public sector employment. Neither have worked in it and they weren't bothered to ask people who might know something about it.
