If computerised machines were completely benign (which is unlikely), then they could still bring about a decline in human intelligence and human ingenuity.
There is conjecture that the human species is gradually losing intelligence because of too much sugar and junk food in the diet, not enough physical activity, too many american movies etc. But if humans begin to rely on computers and AI to remember information, do calculations and solve problems, then humans lose the ability to think, remember information and to solve problems and progress. Ironic that as machines get smarter, humans are likely to get dumber. I also agree with Allan B. I have two computers, and one keeps my data and is never connected to the internet. Parents should also limit the time children spend on their spyphones, or ban them completely. I already know of grandparents who will not allow their grandchildren to come into the house with their spyphones. The grandchildren must leave their spyphones in the car or the grandparents will smash the spyphones and throw them into the rubbish bin. Posted by interactive, Tuesday, 30 August 2016 4:01:06 PM

It's too late already. Consider how many folks depend on their smartphones for well... basically a lot of their life now. Sad as that may sound, it is quite realistic in today's world.
I have worked and trained in the I.T. industry albeit back in the last decade and have several vendor certifications, but could see a big 'leg up' when smartphones took off in popularity. Their are already a few folks running around the place with chips under their skin now... so what's next? scary as that may sound. It's not just the I.T industry that is very clever at manipulating basic human behavior patterns to sell you something because of their brainwashing techniques to create that desire of "want" for the latest and the greatest among the younger generations commonly known as millennials or generation Y . Get them when they are young and they will be hooked for life... remind you of the Tobacco industry in years gone by? But in this industry, one just HAS to be connected or their is something desperately wrong with you.... yeah right.. whatever.. Nevertheless, machines will always have a place... somewhere... somehow.. can't see modern life without it really. Currently the video game "Fallout 4" has a faction within it that makes perfect looking synthetic human beings that are indistinguishable from real human beings... unless you physically cut them and their is no blood. That maybe fantasy entertainment, but remember they were creating stories about man being on the moon prior to the 1960s. So don't laugh, today's art is tomorrows reality! One would be well advised to keep a second machine connected only to a printer, and then send your sensitive material by the old fashioned hand delivered, safer mail!
