By Kellie Tranter, published 5/1/2016

Minister Dutton has used extreme yet ambiguous language to describe the intentions of those seeking to protect human rights only to be caught wrong-footed.

Okay, so this Somali refugee women on Nauru said that she was pregnant because of an unreported sexual assault and wanted the pregnancy terminated. They sent her to Australia for the termination, but she said she was sick and did not want the termination then or in a week. So they sent her back to Nauru until she is ready/well? I assume there is plenty of time before the cutoff. I could not see any details on her illness.

As she declined to make a return appointment I don't know what else the authorities could have done but send her back until she decides to have the termination. That the minister did not specifically add the information that the women still wanted a termination, but just at some unspecified future date, is hardly devastating.

Her application for an Australian visa should be decided in the usual way.

Why all the fuss about some Somali female? Australians have enough to worry about domestically without bothering themselves about someone who has no legal right to be conected with us at all.

If they are in our care they have all the rights as a citizen. The blue stops with Dutton, did he do the right thing or not. If his decision amounted to a breach of her rights Dutton will have to carry the kan.

so many lies are told by illigal immigrants and refugee advocates one does not know who to believe. Even Ms Triggs made up guns in her head to support her narrative and she is considered a hero of the left.

Why all this fuss about a human female? Because every human being has rights.

I have daughters, who if subjected to the same treatment, while say touring in India, the world's largest democracy, I would want those who perpetrated the crime brought to justice!

How do we know if during the assault she wasn't infected with a terminal STD?
It is already bad enough that this woman was assaulted while under our very expensive protection.

As for minister Dutton, I'm not all that surprised by this former("fine upstanding") Queensland police officer's reaction, blame the victim rhetoric, and obsession with keeping these folks out of Australia, regardless of how much that costs us.

Sure, let's destroy the people smugglers business model, but not by turning into uncaring monsters as a first response. We're not Nazis!

And there are always two sides to every story, particularly when there's official secrecy and an official line!
Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more.

I urge all posting here to read, "to kill a mockingbird," if only to understand that natural justice isn't just a white prerogative.

Shame minister Dutton shame. Official protection eh? Well that has quite a history hasn't it?

No Dutton just did what most QLD cops of his era did and lied continuously, he would have abused her as well but he was still learning how to work the phone.
Looks like he still has problems in that Dept but he need not have worried the NEWS Corp Journalist just self censored as per instructions
