This article confirms my opinion that mental illness has been successfully relegated to the dogs breakfast of Capitalisims industrial profiteering on a large scale.
The mentally ill are now captured pawns to be exploited for profit; all which begs the question, who are the mentally ill...really?

Good point you raise 'Diver Dan', who are the mentally ill? that gets to the root of this article.
Concepts about what is normal and what isn't change over the decades. Who has the 'authority' to come out and say citizen xyz is mentally ill or not? what standards of normalcy are socially, economically and politically acceptable in today's society?? Highly complex issue this is... fueled largely by electronic medias like the internet and the spread of 'information'.

Sadly, much of this seems right!

However, it being mostly right just doesn't make us responsible for every fleeing asylum seeker/economic migrant; and the real mind game!

One only need measure our humane response to that in the news recently, with regard to hugely exploited Bengali Muslims, to understand, we have no case to answer!

And that we have one of the most generous per capita resettlement arrangements for genuine asylum seekers.

Moreover, we resettle some 200,000 legitimate migrants every year!

We have always had PTS among returning servicemen or emergency workers?

However, it was once called shell shock or a nervous breakdown.

And evidence is emerging, we may have been underutilized meditation and overusing often less effective and sometimes addictive medication, in treating all of the above?

And down to the more professional, more learned advocates like yourself?

Who all too often knew all the reasons, why we should rely exclusively on them and their opinions, which seem to move like a fluky breeze as they are exposed, like shock therapy, to professionally applied cures, which cause more harm than the disease?

Fortunately, some of us are discovering that the brain, the most complex organ in the body, is just as capable of succumbing to disease as any other organ; and often just manifests as lacking a particular brain chemical as a result?

Nonetheless, we confront a highly opinionated profession, who regularly talk down or simply ignore meditation and the self help response it can and does engender?

But particularly where PTS is involved?

I mean, what harm would or could possibly ensue, if a hour long daily guided, but dogma free meditation sessions, were mandatory for one and all, in any of our asylum seeker camps?

And given the only two groups not able to benefit being very small children, because their attention span is too short; or the criminally insane, because their brains are just too active or continually short circuiting (circular thinking)?

Give us a useful tool in determining who we might genuinely help, and those beyond it?

Frank Furedi's "On Tolerance: A Defence of Moral Independence" first put me onto the political lurk of removing the individual's ability to to live, think, cope and live one's own life on one's own terms. They need to be protected from the 'nastiness' by the all-knowing elite.

Some manipulators now actually claim that verbal or psychological comments about someone or their thoughts (negative, I.e) are equal to physical assault! Stuff and nonsense, of course, but this rubbish thinking is encouraging people to be 'victims' who are going to lose all resilience, natural and learned.

I guess when it comes to mental health it's something that the Left, Politically Correct, Greenie do-gooders would know a lot about & be closely associated with. Ay.

Here we see another huge strawman: finding an issue that many on the Left are concerned about (with good reason as the Right have neglected it for so long) then finding a fringe viewpoint and attributing it to "the Left".

It also trivialises issues. Just because some people can put up with workplace bullying doesn't mean anyone should have to.
