Research has demonstrated negative stereotypes of the old, not only impact on how others view us, but on how we view ourselves.

Yes Patricia; and isn't a truism that youth is wasted on the young?

I could say you're as only as old as you feel, but that would likely lead me to say something now politically inappropriate, so I won't say it.

Just leave it to others to work it out for themselves, although a nod's as good as a wink to a blind horse.

One of the perplexing puzzles of the world is what Canberra DOES with its seniors. Aren't there any? Or are they hidden away somewhere? Maybe the cold of Canberra has solved the problem of the elderly. It is an ill wind that doesn't blow some good as they say.

Why Canberra is that way just might throw some light on the attitude of politicians and bureaucrats alike, who obviously regard seniors as a non-productive burden, old sods who really should have the good grace to fall off their park benches as the first icy winds of Autumn blow from the Brindabellas.

Waiting for the feds to do anything is like watching moss grow and who says they are interested in 'old buggers' anyway?

Seniors
If it is going to be, it has got to be me.

That is so true, & says it all ConservativeHippie. For those of us who are happy with themselves, & simply accept a reduced capacity to do as much as we once could, there is no problem.

I recently rebuilt the brakes on one of my old sports cars. Only a 4 or 5 hour job for a workshop, it took me a week. I did just one wheel a day, & by working for just a couple of hours avoided upsetting my back or knees, but got the job done for less than half the commercial price. The advantage of being old & retired, there is no great hurry to get things finished. However, working at my current rate, there is always a job or two on the to do list, on cars or house.

We have a community centre, & a community free bus which takes oldies to the centre a day or 2 a week. This is a great service, which helped keep my mother interested in life. Getting dressed up, & going to natter to a few friends was the highlight of her week in her 80s & early 90s. It doesn't have to be too busy a schedule, or expensive to keep the oldies interest up.
