North Korea's new anti-ship missile: no cause for alarm : Comments
By Liang Nah, published 16/2/2015North Korea's test firings of 5 short range KN-09 anti-ship missiles on 8th February 2015 is simply a sabre rattling exercise. These missiles are not a game changer for DPRK naval capabilities and do not alter the status quo.

As well as being similar to the Harpoon, the North Koreans "KN-09" is similar to the French built Exocets that the Argentinians used against the Royal Navy during the Falkland's War in 1982.
Interesting if North Korea could integrate the KN-09 for submarine launch making it much more dangerous. North Korea's nuclear capability is indeed its most dangerous asset. The author says nuclear tipped North Korean intercontinental ballistic missile would be cause for concern. Of even greater concern are North Korea's short range missiles that can hit Seoul and medium range ballistic missiles particularly the Rodong-1/Nodong-1 that can hit Japan http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodong-1 . Now the Nodong may sound impotent but its very, very nasty. Pete Posted by plantagenet, Monday, 16 February 2015 12:11:04 PM

To the rest of the world North Korea is just playing. As long as they don't hurt anybody else ignore them. BUT, you can't ignore this:
http://www.lewrockwell.com/2014/11/gary-north/russian-plane-disabled-us-warships-missile-defense-system/ If this report is true the US and NATO's Aegis Combat System has been made completely useless. The US becomes almost defenceless (blind to large forces) outside (and possibly within) the US. Then it would be hard for the US not to pre-emptively strike potential targets. The world is engulfed in a tit for tat campaign. As we know from observing small children, this doesn't end nicely. Posted by JustGiveMeALLTheFacts, Monday, 16 February 2015 6:18:26 PM

JustGiveMeALLTheFacts,
Well I suppose we are lucky the report is completely untrue. It doesn't even make sense on so many levels! Only the most uncritical thinker could believe this propaganda. Posted by Stezza, Tuesday, 17 February 2015 5:58:37 AM

All of that and nobody thinks to ask what on Earth would motivate North Korea's leadership to commit certain suicide?
Let's face it, Kim may not be the sharpest tool in the shed, but he seems to quite like living it up and has the resources to do so. It amuses me to watch the constant propagandising that goes on over 3/5 of bugger all and it's even more amusing to watch people take it seriously! We know how to fire ship destroying rockets underwater and from almost undetectable acrylic bullet proof mini subs; and as such almost indefensible.
Remote control allows the rocket's course to be adjusted for effect; and relatively easily done from a mini sub, from where they're eyeballed to ensure a good hit!
I'd imagine the already successfully trialed Israeli model would suit us, and given their smaller size, able to be installed in side by side 12 shot tubes?
Meaning potentially lethal consequences for any actively hostile surface and underwater navy; always providing good intell informs us of their present disposition?
Now if just two missile are able to take out an entire ship, and each mini sub carries 12 missiles each; and we send around forty mini subs on such missions as simultaneously as possible; and possible from a single nuclear powered sub able to take up a completely covert position for months; we could take out overnight, some 240 vessels, should we ever need to?
How many ships and subs does the north Korean navy have?
A large modern nuclear powered sub, can achieve speeds of up to 50 knots or better? And therefore able to simply outrun any pursuit by most surface vessels!
And are as large as the average WW11, aircraft carrier, meaning, one could carry and deploy around forty or fifty on these miniature acrylic subs? How many could 12 carry?
Alternatively, 10-20 cruise missiles!
Which would reduce the risks and or those needing to be placed in harm's way!
Even so, two volunteers and a locally invented locally manufactured mini sub for six ships of the line, is acceptable odds or potential losses.
Meaning, the only cause for alarm should be in North Korean ranks; or those of her allies!
