The invisible censor : Comments

Aldi's patrons will look in vain for copies of Revolting Rhymes, which was nervously snatched from the shelves in August.

Aldi, as a good corporate citizen, has every right to decide what belongs on their shelves and what does not.
[Besides, people vote with their feet and or, purchasing patterns!]

And certainly to be commended for having the courage to remove items, which include the most horrendous description of violence against women!
There is just no legitimate place for this ratbag rubbish in a civil society!
The invisible censor wasn't at work here on this occasion, just common human decency!

Seems like the author is complaining about individuals making free choices regarding their relationships with other individuals within the market context. While I do disagree with the complaints of many if these individuals, they are not enforcing their censorship on me, and I will still be able to find a market for whatever material I want regardless of their actions. The exception to this is if the state gets involved in censorship, and even then it only becomes illegal, not impossible. In a world where opinion is influenced so much by large corporations, complaining about the consumer influencing corporations is a bit rich...

for years the 'progressives'argued that pornography was harmless and adults were not affected by what they see. Now with heaps in prison for rape/child abuse after feasting on this stuff their is still no back down. Depends on what is the flavour of the month what they want banned. Feminist argue the case of misogyny when convenient however in communities where it is most evident they refuse to go.

Wasn't that woman professor who made up things in her own mind (imaginary guns)about detention centres part of the Human Rights Commission? Have they got rid of her to enhance any sort of credibility?

As long as we enjoy living in a Free country store owners have every right to sell or not sell whatever products are legally available.

It's always amazes me how some righteously defend what sensible people might consider trash, whilst not extending the same rights to those who disagree. Its okay to create something that is offensive but its not okay to be offended.

A few years ago in Wellington the Te Papa Museum displayed a piece of controversial 'art' that outraged Catholics but the museum defended its position as freedom of artist expression and essentially 'toughen up' for anyone who was offended. The 'art' was a Madonna with a condom rolled over it.

One of the reasons we have governments is that only governments can stand against the mob. As we see - privately owned companies cannot do it.

The more of our commonwealth we sell of to private interests, the more we will be ruled by the mob.

"Now with heaps in prison for rape/child abuse after feasting on this stuff their is still no back down. "

Absolute rubbish. Rape is occurring at lower rates every year, quite likely precisely because would-be rapists have access to porn.

And the "child abuse" hysteria is precisely that: a stupid witch-hunt and american moral panic.

Society now is afar and better than it has ever been, and getting better every year.
