Trapped in their public narrative : Comments

By Alon Ben-Meir, published 15/12/2014

They are now increasingly focused on evoking international sympathy to their cause, but have failed time and again to appeal to the Israeli public, which matters the most to realize their stated objective of a Palestinian state.

A righteous cause? Yes!
But leadership that accepts what can be gained now today by way of readdressing legitimate grievances! No never ever!

And as long as that remains the case, they and their just cause will lose more and more ground/international sympathy and or, assistance!
To the victors the spoils; and to the defeated, whatever they can realistically successfully negotiate, now today!
As opposed to be offered far less tomorrow.

It is far easier for a sovereign nation with finally internationally recognized sovereign borders, to enter mutual self defense treaties/ win trade and or arms deals.
And even win international military assistance, if those borders and or sovereignty is breached.

Currently all the Palestinians seem able to achieve, is lose more and more ground to Israeli settlers!
And mark well my words, something bound to continue, as long as they and or fanatics on both sides are able to continue to foment unrest or armed conflict!

Only ever logical or result in territorial gains, if the were even the most remote chance of actual military success!
They need to accept the unacceptable, and then just bide their time(around one single decade) until the Arabs become the electoral majority; and even then learn to speak with just one voice, if they would ever hope to address or right perceived past wrongs!

Trapped in their public narrative? Maybe?
But more importantly, what really needs to change is totally unrealistic attitudes and seriously counterproductive extreme hostility!

All that can ever be achieved with a few pin pricks near a tigers tail, is a seriously enraged and lethal tiger!

And playing right into their opposition's hands, with the only possible outcome; more Israeli settlements in occupied territory!

"In recent months nothing has made me more angry than an article written and posted on 11 December by Alon Ben-Meir with a headline that described the occupied and oppressed Palestinians as being Trapped In Their Public Narrative. It included this statement. “The Palestinians haven’t learned that they cannot have it both ways: demand a state of their own and threaten Israel’s very existence.”"

My immediate response was this.

The only threat to Israel’s very existence is its on-going colonization of the occupied West Bank (ethnic cleansing slowly and by stealth) and the sickening Zionist self-righteousness that justifies it.

Given the Chocolate Shop Siege going on right now in Martin Place (Sydney) about the only comfort is that at least Australia doesn't have the high tempo of Muslims-With-Bombs problems that Israel has.

Australia isn't stuck in a constantly hostile Middle East of unreformed Religious Arab raiding tribes while Israel is.

Dear Plantagenet,

<<about the only comfort is that at least Australia doesn't have the high tempo of Muslims-With-Bombs problems that Israel has.>>

In Israel, a siege like this could not occur because at least few of the hostages would have guns and would shoot back. Yes, there have been a few attacks lately there - but all lasted no more than a minute.

That a single or a couple of terrorists could hold up dozens of hostages, could only happen in Australia because government has taken away the guns of the good people while the bad ones still have them.
