By Ross Elliott, published 7/11/2014

It's almost remarkable that the Federal Government has resisted entering the debate about housing when the topic is so nationally contentious.

What housing policy?
Government inaction in this very area, whether it be limiting foreign investors, and the pricing spikes they indubitably create, or general housing affordability, speaks volumes!
Even so, we elect do nothing meaningful, governments, one after the other.
So cannot really complain when we get the government we deserve.
And that has to apply to the eternal whingers, who won't even get out there and vote; the only chance they have to change things or make a difference, short of rebellion and a civil war.
And who in their right mind cold possibly want that? Isil maybe?

The best solution is a broad based land value tax. That would enable Australia to dispense with interest rates as a way of controlling house prices, meaning they could be set lower to help grow the economy.
