So are we at risk particularly given that at least three cases have turned up in the USA albeit two of which were returned under care from West Africa?

Even the author, whose photo can only be described as Uncle Harry, should see the Malthusian benefits* for overcrowded Africa.

Either that or have the brave Men of Sovereign Borders with Guns wave an anti-Ebola wand at all escapees from Australia.

About: " Nowhere is safe and although we are frequently told that Australia has one of the best border surveillance and protection systems in the world and that Customs and Border Protection Officers would be on the watch for sick passengers arriving in Australia, how confident can we be that this would offer us protection"

Yes the above is very true. But there can be no confidence in the above organisations because under the guise of human rights the high court under pressure from human rights lobbyists and the UN will not allow Australia from stopping anybody gaining entry to this country be they ebola infected or not

Ebola has been appearing in waves, each bigger than the last.
It's a certainty that it will eventually reach the First World, and given that social inequity has created virtual ghettos in every city in the West it will be very hard to control, and will almost certainly eventually spread widely.
The requisite modalities for dealing with it effectively in the West did used to exist, but they've been "rationalised" and "privatised" virtually out of existence, and definitely into incompetence. They will be deemed too expensive, and a brute-force method will follow, isolation basically, at the cost of many lives.
Since the vast majority of those victims will be the poor, the serfs in our New Feudal society, little will be done, the wealthy elites who hold control will be under little threat so won't care at all if a few million "plebs" get wiped out, they don't need them hence they're worthless overall, "we're better off without them" will be the sub-text.
Welcome to the 21st Century people, if it weren't for the existence of my grandkids I'd say "you're welcome to it" and depart laughing!
