Footnote:
Yes and knowing people might be listening Kellie, with a capital K, may make people far more reticent! As indeed it did, when some pollies private mobile phone conversations were made public! And surely those with the most valuable knowledge, and an ability to see it got into the wrong hands, by say falling from the back of a truck, (leaked) are politicians themselves; and would be among the very first, I would want to monitor! Oh for the day's of genuine cabinet confidentiality, closed ranks and no comment comments! More memoirs anyone? Rhrosty. Posted by Rhrosty, Friday, 8 August 2014 11:49:20 AM

Bah Humbug!
I aim to inject a dose of male logic into this wild womanly fantasy. Next week. Pete Posted by plantagenet, Friday, 8 August 2014 5:29:40 PM

I think they have been spying on us all for a long time. They just want to make it legal. They would make Hitler proud.
Perhaps we can get children to spy on their parents. Remember the Carbon Cops ads ? Fascism is afoot. Tell George Brandis what you think. Here is his facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ausattgenbrandis?fref=ts Posted by Arjay, Saturday, 9 August 2014 2:58:27 AM

Yes Arjay
It is the children, all looking like miniature versions of George Brandis (Heaven Forbid!!) who are spying on you specifically. For you are an unsung hero against the State. Posted by plantagenet, Saturday, 9 August 2014 9:51:49 AM

Pete, do I sense some sarcasm in your comments ? The facts are that John Howard's Sedition Laws negate Habeas Corpus, which means anyone of if defined as a terrorist by our Govts can be detained indefinitely without legal council or trial. Are you a little bit concerned ?
The other big issue is "bail in" ie a Cyprus style confiscation of our bank accounts. The Citizens Electoral Council have the evidence.http://www.cecaust.com.au/ Sign the petition to stop "bail in " and bring back the Glass Steagall Act. Posted by Arjay, Saturday, 9 August 2014 4:00:28 PM

That said, and given the coalitions record, when indeed, it leaned far less to the right!?
I would insist that any such increase in the powers of security agencies etc, was accompanied by a long overdue bill of human rights!
One Dr Haneef, [and the quite massive abuse of his basic human rights,] per lifetime, is more than enough, or put another way, one too many!
For mine, they can look at what they like, and there being no manifest public or security interest or genuine concern!?
The file simply shredded or automatically wiped, like the proverbial priest in his confessional!
In the wrong hands, such information, Adultery/a teenage abortion/secret lover/still closeted gender bias etc/etc; however harmless for security purposes?
Could led to blackmail; given any personally embarrassing peccadillo; and genuine subsequent security concerns!
After all, our agencies are hardly likely to be the only ones perusing collected, "SECURELY STORED" electronic data, are they!?
Keep your noses out of our bedrooms, or what consenting adults might choose to do!
We don't need another moralizing, puritanical Howard Hoover, or the completely covert abuse of, way too much personal power!
