Iran's interim nuclear deal : Comments

By Arash Falasiri, published 3/12/2013

From the very first hour after the interim nuclear deal in Geneva on November 24, there was a substantial difference of interpretation between the US and Iran.

What the bloody hell did you expect? Lawyers write all laws in crypt so they have to be interpreted. It keeps them in work & rich.

Apologies to Tony Abbott.

"We are going to keep the Laws. We are going to keep the Laws that we actually made, not the Laws that some people thought that we made or the Laws that some people might have liked us to make. We're going to keep the Laws that we actually made."

What a very well written and informative article.

The negotiations sre those between nations that understand real power and it's influence.
Iran is by far and away, like it or not, the most influencial power, after the US, in the region.
It is it's tradition to be at odds with the Arabs(ancient) and Israel(recent) just like it was at odds with it's ancient rivals in Iraq.

The Iranians know exactly what is required of them if they wish for the civilised world to ease sanctions on them. They also know that the deal is for six months only, and if they want to play sillybuggers the sanctions will go back on.

Basically this month's Iranian nuclear deal is the lowest common denominator agreement that the P5+1 and Iran could make.

Iran is forced to put its nuclear weapons program on pause every few years. This is such a case - only a 6 month pause on uranium enrichment (up to and greater than 20% enriched) and a slowing down of plutonium reprocessing capability.

As the author indicates it doesn't totally please anyone - least of all illegally nuclear armed Israel ("calling the Iranian kettle black") and terrorism supporting Saudi Arabia (which most probably has a long term deal to buy Pakistani nuclear warheads) - see http://gentleseas.blogspot.com.au/2012/08/saudi-ballistic-missiles-nuclear.html .

Plantagenet: illegally nuclear armed Israel ("calling the Iranian kettle black")

Maybe so, but who do you trust more with Nuclear Fission material, Israel or "Any Muslim state?"

Iran is just after a breathing space to make other arrangements & allow "stuff" into the country that they need to enhance the nuclear facility.
