New Australian leader gives hope to conservatives everywhere : Comments

By Walter Lohman, published 11/9/2013

Abbott explicitly identified himself and his party with Heritage's support for free enterprise, limited government, individual freedom, traditional values, and a strong national defence.

PS: The Heritage (lies,lies and more lies) Foundation is of course a highly influential propaganda factory for the Universal Death Machine that now rules the entire planet.

The American Exceptionalism claim for Abbott was rather strange.

What evidence is there for the exceptionalism and in what way is that country exceptional? The USA is a country endowed with some exceptional natural benefits, such as vast areas of exceptional agricultural land and minerals. But, that is about it!

In a 2011 study of the well-being enjoyed by the populations of the 31 OECD countries the USA rated 27th, only ahead of Greece, Chile, Mexico and Turkey. Great company. The top six were Iceland, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and The Netherlands, all countries of rather low religiosity and substantially lower inequality than the USA.
Australia did not rate all that well at 21st, well behind Canada (9th), NZ (12th), and the UK (15th). What in Abbott's policies will improve our relative position?

The New York Times was so perturbed by the study that it published the information in a graphic table on 28th October 2011.
The NYT article included;

"We sold ourselves a pipe dream that everyone could get rich and no one would get hurt — a pipe dream that exploded like a pipe bomb when the already-rich grabbed for all the gold; when they used their fortunes to influence government and gain favours and protection; when everyone else was left to scrounge around their ankles in hopes that a few coins would fall"

David Leyonhjelm stated people in South Western Sydney, where I live with my children, should be armed so the "bad guys" don't know whose armed and whose not. This is the most frightening statement I have ever heard. The spate of shooting in SW Sydney are between criminal bike gangs. It's a turf war! Why bring the general public into it? We're not involved! Why make us targets? Trial this dangerous and morionic proposal in the Northern Suburbs, let them shoot each other, leave us out of it.Our local communities are stiving for harmony and succeeding. I've met people who have survived being shot and the psychological trauma they suffer is horrendous. People always count the dead, they never look at the effect shootings have on the survivors. Is Mr Leyonhjelm willing to fight for money for mental health services to cope with the impact of death, injury and misery that will follow if such a nasty proposal gets off the ground.

Abbott brings hope to conservatives across the word? Surely that must presage the end of the Conservative Ideology and about time.

Abbott must be the most uninspiring leader the world has ever seen. He would be at home running a bicycle repair shop or a gym!

Perhaps he is a nice man but, in a crowd of three he wouldn't be noticed! I mean, Obama, the world's greatest liar and warmonger was at least an orator.

What is Abbott's strong suit: his budgie-smuggler outfit?

The Tories and Republicans are too closely associated with the wealthy elite, extricate the greed from those parties and they will too know real victory, not just some disastrous big business-libertine hybrid that can only cause damage...they need to offer good people a party to vote for.
