All animals (including humankind), and the environment they inhabit, deserve respect and care; but the human animal is flawed, self-centred, aggressive, overly-competitive, overly-sexed, and above all, arrogant. In so many places it is only belief (religion?), culture and taboos which have inculcated respect for various species and for environment and habitat - with concern for long-term self-sufficiency and health being a paramount underlying driving force. But now, so many of humankind are divorced from 'nature' and natural forces, and have so manipulated and despoiled the natural environment, that they have lost that respect, and that connection, and focus solely on self-interest - irrespective of long-term consequences.

Overpopulation, competition, jealousy and detachment from self-sufficiency imperatives have moulded much of humankind into a less compassionate, less caring and truly 'invasive' and increasingly destructive species.

Perhaps the only hope for humankind is to take a step back, to impose exceedingly harsh penalties for all forms of animal cruelty, human included, with no exceptions, including for the sort of psychological 'experiments' on animals described in this article - for such 'science' is nothing short of grotesque.

Irrespective of the words used to describe it, cruelty, the infliction of unnecessary pain or distress, is abhorrent, and no cultural or even survival interests or imperatives can condone it.

If we cannot learn to truly respect 'life', then we deserve no respect, and we, as a species, will suffer the consequences.

Homework for the esteemed animal lawyer.
Walk stealthfully into a field and select your test subject.
Now in your most dulcet tone repeat the words " I respect your place on this planet and I will dedicate my career to protect your rights and my questionable income"
Now in the same tone repeat" you look tasty and I'm gonna eat you"
What did you find?
