Increasing the tax take would then be as simple as growing the economy, rather than the tax paying population base!

Since when has there ever been intergenerational equity? A civil society looks after the sick the marginalized and the frail - so nobody should be alarmist about kids and grandkids paying for those not able to provide for themselves. But to suggest that is inequitable or unsustainable is alarmist garbage.

Now hear this. The overwhelming majority of older Australians will not be like their parents and grandparents and reliant upon welfare - they will be fit and capable of continuing to work and contribute just as much as their kids and (if not more so) well into their 70s and 80s and beyond. If they do end up on welfare it could be because bigots fail to acknowledge their knowledge and skills and deny them the right to provide for themselves.
