Australian bipartisan support needed for Macedonia and its diaspora in Australia : Comments

By Ordan Andreevski, published 4/6/2013

The policy of delegitimising Macedonia is not in Australia's national interest. It also does not contribute to its international reputation as a creative middle power.

How can Australia continue to participate in such an obvious discrimination of one people? No single person has the right to choose what you can call yourself, except for you.

If Macedonians wish to call their country Macedonia, as Australians wish to call their Country Australia, how can we even suggest they should do anything to the contrary?

I fully support any nation and their democratic right to self determination.

For anyone that may suggest that the name Macedonia is confusing to people or may suggest territorial claims, perhaps they should take a closer look at the Macedonian Constitution.

The need for an Australian embassy in Macedonia is also obvious. I had family from Australia stuck in Macedonian on some visa issues. They had to make the lengthy bus ride to Belgrade (12 Hours) several times to resolve the issue. The embassy staff did not speak Macedonian (They are supposed to service this country) and in most cases refused to speak English. This is a priority for Australian travellers to the Balkans.

Thank you for the interesting article. Australia's good reputation is at stake and this injustice needs to end now. Macedonia deserves to be recognised under its constitutional name without delay.

Australia can't recognise Macedonia, Ordan, because both sides of Australia's parliament are frightened of loosing the Greek vote. Since "Greeks" voters out number "Macedonian" voters, you are on a loser there. Your best bet, is to figure out how to get as many "Macedonians" into Australia as you can, so that they can become citizens in three years and out vote the Greeks and the Australians.

Everybody else in the world is doing it. We even had a "Syrian" Labor member of parliament who claimed he was Assad's man in Canberra.

Your people do not even need passports or visas. Just say that somebody is "oppressing" you and you get a free kick. Your people should not have any trouble finding boats, corruption is so endemic in the Australian Labor Party, that I am certain that the next scandal will be that some Labor luminaires have been discovered owning shares in Indonesian boat building yards.

Hurry up and join the ever growing queue. Our governments will happily give Australia's poor two fingers worth just to make you happy. Free houses, $10,000 bucks cash, Medicare cards, subsidised this and that, and even a food hamper for when you move into a house they chucked some poor Aussie out of.

It is the biggest lurk in the world, and you even get to force the Australian government to aid your Macadonia that you know you will always belong to.

It is time Australia to join the other democratic countries and biggest players in world's politics and economy who recognised Macedonia under it's constitutional and historic name long time ago. If not it will stay lonely on the margins of world politics supporting old trends and policy destined to fiasco . Who ever will form the new government will should stop humiliating it's own citizens, who are by the way electing and paying it. Macedonians respect and work for the good of Australia, Australia should respect them and give them a fair go.
