Obama and the new manhood : Comments

By Don Edgar, published 4/12/2012

It resonates in the Australian context because we have just witnessed the clearest challenge to male chauvinism in decades in our Prime Minister's 'mysogyny' speech.

Let us not hold women back. Let us (had to interrupt my keying to fold the laundry) live by the sweat of our frau.

and Tony Abbott who has a lovely wife aqnd has brought up wonderful daughters must really get up the author's nose. And then there is Julia's example of femminism. Enough said. I know who I would rather as model for children.

Fancy choosing Obama as the new model for masculinity!

Perhaps the author doesn't know about Obama's assassination squads, Gitmo, waterboarding, the determined attempt by the Commander in Chief to gain control of the world for the U.S., rendition, the increasing surveillance of the American people, the violent stifling of dissent, the killing of kids across the world via drones, the threat of nuking Iran, etc, all authorized by Obama.

Because Obama hugs his wife, that doesn't make him a symbol of a new, softer, caring masculinity.

To maintain it does borders on the ridiculous!

Dear runner,

Tony Abbott's wife and daughters support him. That is good. Julia Gillard is a person in her own right. That is also good.

I would rather my granddaughters follow the example of Julia Gillard than that of Tony Abbott's wife and children if they have the capability.

It is good that men encourage women, and women encourage men. However, a talented woman can do more than encourage a man, and Julia Gillard is a talented woman.

Both men and women should have the opportunity to contribute to the extent of their capabilities.

Gosh. That's a funny sort of world you live in, up there in cloud land Don.

Down here on Earth, things are a bit different.

Lots of young men down here, having been discriminated against and held back when they were boys going to girls' schools, became disenfranchised from the system. They were stigmatised and drugged because they were restless and non-compliant in female micro-managed institutions. The boys were suspended and expelled. That was back when the mantra was "the trouble with boys". It's no surprise they've turned out antisocial.

Now we've got trouble with men - a much more serious dilemma.

These young men are angry, frustrated and violent. They're rogues and renegades. So much for the great social re-engineering experiment of the lefty-feminists. It's all gone wrong and it's way too late to turn it around now.

Don't just take my word for it. Here's a sample of what we have to try to live with down here in reality thanks to folks like you:

And that's just some of what happened over the last week or so.

I can't agree with your jubilation of "All hail to the new masculinity." Your new masculinity is a very scary, ugly, violent beast.

You should try coming down to Earth sometime and check out reality Don.

I wonder if this bloke has ever met a man. Probably not in his line of work. He wouldn't know that real men protect their women.

Then he likes Gillard, as only a fool could. The fool doesn't see the black widow in her, just smiling until she can bite his head off.
