That would be right after the Yom Kippur war when only timely resupply of the IDF by the Nixon Administration had dissuaded the Israelis from unleashing their nukes. Cairo had been within hours of becoming radio-active dust and Egypt's economy was in ruins. The US bribed the Egyptians into a peace-treaty and Sadat had few options.
Oh, and he knew how his offer would be received because the US had sounded out the Israelis for him. He was taking no risk at all.
Let's not make a hero out of a Jew-hating malevolent dictator who did the only thing he could to save himself and his regime.
And speaking of the "ideology of hatred", exhibit A is the hatred against Jews that pours out of most Mosques and Madrassahs.
Now that's a real, global, ideology of hatred that pervades the culture of one fifth of humanity.
