By Tony Smith, published 2/7/2012

"Ann Nugent concludes that she would feel safe if her final resting place were in the dry western soils near Annie. Patti Miller continually foregrounds the Aboriginal connection to the land and the spirituality of place."

I don't know how old Ann Nugent or Patti Miller are, but if they are over forty there is a very good chance that among their 'spiritual' ancestors they would have been dead by that age already, having buried a few children along the way.

Given the choice between 'spirituality' and clean reliable water supplies, medical care and comfortable homes, most people will make it quite clear where their preference lies. Let's not romanticise the trials that our ancestors had to go through into anything more than the irritating necessities that they were.
