Nice try! Very funny. Actually the public schools have only themselves to blame for the great disillusion that has sent parents flying to private schools to try and make sure that their own kids get a decent education. The multiple diversions and make-work culture of the public schools over three-four decades has had it's impact. Right now the only way back is to recapture parents' confidence that the public schools will actually educate their children. This might mean spending some real time on the high achievers, instead of focussing so intensely on the easier option of 'supporting' and remediating, etc. More of a challenge to both teachers and schools, but without which the kids will keep walking elsewhere. Thankfully they do have some kind of option, even if it is expensive. It will predictably take some time to restore confidence in the public system, so it might be a good idea to get going on the real problems, or we might find the Woolworths' scenario actually taking hold!
