The railways system in NSW requires a change in governance, but not necessarily privatisation.

The author has attempted to back all sides in a complex argument, eventually ending with a feeble demand that the Minister show her hand regarding privatisation of the rail system in NSW.

Along the way, she displays little knowledge of or care for the history and capacity of the rail network, which has been substantially reduced during my lifetime and which is crying out for a true business plan.

If the plan is simply "more of the same", then we can expect to see more track closures and vastly reduced country services. The town I live in is serviced by a single train daily each way at weekends and slightly more on weekdays, with no schedule which offers a trip to Sydney, circa 250km, and back in a single working day. The track is fully occupied by coal trains 24/7, so the writing is on the wall for even this puny service.

Personal involvement in projects with ARTC, RailCorp or Rail-Whatsisname, the periodical owners and operators of the system, has convinced me that one of the best possible initial actions by a Minister would be the summary dismissal of many of the petty territorial squabblers, otherwise known as middle managers. For doing that, I congratulate the Minister.

This might not lead to a situation where a decision is a decision and is not simply an opportunity for another bunyip to pop up and overturn progress, but at least there will be fewer bunyips.

So, Minister, how about a proper business plan?

Maybe Sydney rail was inspired by the Greek compatriots, who carried more non-productive drones than passengers?
It's time to de-bureaucratize Sydney rail. There's just too many quite grossly over paid unproductive chiefs and far too few under rewarded genuinely productive Indians.
No more privatization; unless the new govt has an electoral death wish?
One of the options that beckons is very rapid rail. Some of the resumed land alongside, could be rezoned post resumption? And then sold directly to intending new home owners? Who, might be given twelve months to initiate a building start; or, a total of eighteen to complete?
The proposed resale of newly rezoned urban land would all but pay for every new very rapid rail link; and, given the ever rising price of fuel? Standing room only and enough profit to gradually and progressively convert and massively upgrade other already existing longer suburban rail lines, into very rapid mass transit systems. Ditto, double deck container carrying interstate freight forwarding rail, on brand new separate dedicated lines.
Separate dedicated double standard gauge lines, ought to allow speeds exceeding 160 kilometres per hour, and trains over a kilometre long!
This would allow trucking to morph into rail servicing short haul contractors, which would all but eliminate heavy haulage on interstate roads, reducing maintenance and repair costs; and, traffic volume and accidents!
The sheer volume of freight forwarded, would over time, repay any and all public outlays! Rhrosty.
