I do agree with you though, where there is mining there is social upheaval. It is a very real negative of the mining "boom" globally, of which Australia is not exempted. Those complaining the loudest are communities in the closest proximity to the mines.

We have a definite need in Australia to stand shoulder to shoulder with these communities in their attempts to gain a voice in development of mines, and to force acknowledgement of negative consequences which come "automatically" with mining development.
