Unfortunately the gig is up for the e-games industry. The real story here is the massive fall in employment over the last three years.

I presonally won't be sorry to see these purveyours of pimply porn and violence relegated to the garbage bin of history.

Sturgeon's Law -- "Ninety per cent of everything is crap" applies to video games as much as it does to TV shows, recorded music or anything else. I buy my video games when they come on special at Steam, and I expect at least half of them to be a disappointment. Some of the rest will be mildly entertaining, some will keep me occupied for a few hours, and now and again a real gem will come along which makes it all worthwhile. Over twenty years, though, I don't suppose there have been much more than twenty games which have 'worked' for me.

So obviously any attempt to get a large number of people all engaged in the same game at the same time is futile. One might as well expect everyone to voluntarily watch the same TV program. And obviously companies will go out of business -- as they do elsewhere in the entertainment industry -- when they have too many duds in a row. But so what? The vitriol in this article is out of all proportion to the importance of its subject.
