Swan tries gallon of gall on business while Gillard offers honey.

Swan’s ‘attack’ on Forrest, Palmer and Rinehart was one of the best things he’s done in a long time. Gillard now needs to positively reinforce this and not be seen to be distancing herself from it at all.

But they need to take it a whole lot further and really stand up for a much-improved independence of government from the all-powerful profit-driven vested-interest big-business sector.

I’m sure that most ordinary people are very highly disillusioned by the closeness of government and big business and the way in which those with huge money can essentially buy favours by way of political donations and other perks.

Big business and govt; have got to be different identities. Or else we may as well end up with big business running the country.
The 1% at the top end, earning Billions at plundering AU natural wealth, and crying fowl at paying Just taxes.
The coalition have a history of favoritism when it comes to the top end of town, and to take their guidance of policy from is dangerous

Indeed!

How would Julia Gillard rank when impartial historians write up history covering the Gillard Government years? Very poorly would be the expectation, given the implementation of a science-unjustified, economics-unjustified, anti-industry and world's highest carbon tax; the billions wasted on poorly planned and executed national projects, such as the BER and renationalisation of telecommunications; the reversion to pre-Hawke-Keating, anti-employment industrial relations policy; and her over-indulgence in spin and lack of credibility.

I have a lot more faith in business leaders' capacity to make rational judgements for the long-term benefit of the nation than that of the current Government. They are, after all, trying to keep their jobs until retirement, and that may be decades away; the Government is merely hoping to keep theirs for another two years.

So what are 'just taxes' 579?

The already pay company tax, pay roll tax, royalties and, they indirectly generate millions in PAYG taxes, from those they employ.

As for the top 1% running the country, IF ONLY!

We already have a fair tax system for our un-renewables, it's called royalties.

Now if they are to low, then address that.

I have always held the view that royalties should be a percentage, not just a number.

The higher the sell price, the higher our cut is.

Can't get any fairer than that!

Royalties are a state issue. What the mining companies pay in tax is fare and sometimes negotiated.
The top 1% have a great deal of power when it comes to outcomes. And govt; must be distanced from them, as not to become corrupted. Their power of generous donations to political parties, is to much to resist, and must be made public.
One wants to bye a paper, what for.
One is trying to bye an election.
One political party is a fan of both, why.
Do they need special treatment, aren't they happy with their share.
Maybe they are just bored, and want to cause mischief.
