In this year's budget it would actually cost money to get tough on the indolent and inactive.

given half a chance, i reckon 99% of people with disabilities or the long-term unemployed would jump at the chance to do some worthwhile meaningful community work, even at nominal wages.

most people are not shirkers, bludgers or ratbags but would be more than willing to be part of the community which has for so long been so patiently supporting them.

1. The disability support pension is not ballooning out of control. The increase in the last 5 years is in line with the population increase. 3.4% of the overall population were on it in 2005 and 3.5% were on it in 2010.
2. The age demographic from the best I can ascertain, comparing the 2005 and 2009 characteristics reports, has not been changing towards the under-35's. The only age group that significantly increased in percentage was the 50-59 age group.

The government have you under their spell.
