Can Barry O'Farrell's contract with the people create a new type of politics?

To call O'Farrell's electoral commitment a "contract" is to stretch the meaning of the word beyond comprehension. At best it is a Heads of Agreement with the details to be worked out. As always the devil will be the detail and with a talentless front bench O'Farrell's commitments are likely to be unachieveable. Whether this will result in farce or tragedy remains to be seen.

That's funny.

"Barry O'Farrell recognises this, and has offered a contract with the people of NSW that, O'Farrell says, will see him resign should he breach his commitments."

The second commitment he breaks will be this one. He's a politician.

("Well, it wasn't a core contract, you understand...")

Give the guy credit for trying to put some credibility back into NSW politics. He of all people knows only to well he could have sat back and let the election go his way, he did not. He has refrained from acting like an arrogant Premier elect and kept debating that disgrace of a woman who with a straight face has come out with such rubbish in terms of policy, costings and pretends that after 16 years in office, the Labor party is deserving of your vote.

In Western Australia, Victoria and I soon hope NSW that state Labor Governments are a thing of the past, until of course things get so good again the people decide they no longer want good Government, just popular ones.

As for stupid remarks in terms of "non-core" promises, if that's the worst thing you can remember John Howard for then I only wish he was still PM, can you imagine how well this country would be doing now!
