Afghanistan is following what might be called a standard model of the illicit drugs industry: find an unstable country with poor governance, establish drug production and use corruption to “manage” the government and apply part of the sales revenue to buy arms. See: Ralph Seccombe, Troublesome Boomerang: Illicit Drug Policy and Security, Security Dialogue September 1997 28: 287-299

Tranter yet a-gain....seeking to come up with a left wing story she wants to peddle to the gullible.

Why is her article a load of..... (insert appropriate negative adjective)?

Because it rests on the Guardian story about "how the US sold critical parts to Pakistan to facilitate their acquisition of Nuclear weapons"

But why is the story ludicrous?

a) It's just the usual 'AMERICA BASHING' the left is renowned for.

b)

//Barlow was relentless in exposing what he saw as US complicity, and in the end he was sacked and smeared as disloyal, mad, a drunk and a philanderer. If he had been listened to, many believe Pakistan might never have got its nuclear bomb;//

It's in those 2 words "many believe"...... who are those 'many' ?

Why do they 'believe' it?

haha.. because they simply WANT to for political reasons.

Why is their 'belief' utterly stupid and wanting for any credibility?

Simple...If China and North Korea can do it alone...so can Pakistan.

*Duh*

AIR,this is nothing to do with Left or Right.Kellie Tranter is 100% correct. It is not the ordinary US citizens that are at fault but the Corporate Elites that control the US Congress who push for wars, and created the GFC for their own power and profit.

JFK warned us about the military/industrial complex and is is time we all exposed their evil intent of illegal invasions under the ruse of eliminating terrorism. The real criminals are on our side AIR.

Kellie and Arjay
Maybe it would be too much to expect that some of our politicians will read this article and give it some thought during the parliamentary debate on the war in Afghanistan.

I have not yet seen any of our journalists questioning how the Taliban came to be created, I thought that the USA financed, trained and equipped them to fight against the Russians when they were in Afghanistan. It does seem like a waste of lives and money to arm and train people and then fight, kill and die to defeat the same people.

It is a pity that some of our leaders do not read some history books, the success rate for armies invading Afghanistan is very poor.
