All four Independent MPs have compelling reasons to maintain Labor in power as long as possible.

Are sure you know what you are talking about, Our mining exports demands reciprocal imports, and these imports, happen to be all the goods Australian factories had been manufacturing before this stupid and corrupt exporting of our non-renewable, non-value added exports began. If you stick your head into Target, K-Mart, Lowes or a hundred other of these kind of shops, you will find that all the clothes and many other goods that we used to manufacture here, and in Bunnings and Trade Tools etc, all the tools we manufactured here also. The only reason that they are so cheap, is because our coal is priced at only 25% to 30% of its value, for instance, in a report by Bloomberg, they say Pohang from Sth. Korea, paid an estimated $US308.70 / tonne for coal, while BHP Billiton, sold Premium coking coal (same type of coal), for $US98 /tonne. So don't tell me that our exporting of coal or in fact any other mined resources is anything but the work of an idiot or a complete traitor to our own industries and their employees. We could well do with people in our parliament, who were loyal to Australia, not people who admit they have no integrity, promising when they join any party, that they will agree with the decisions of the majority. I contend they have not too much intelligence also.

Well that is another one of those incredibly opinionated loads of manure that just seem to keep rolling in.
the usual comments are made to the unbalanced amount of power the independents have. Well that is handed to them by the opposition, it is also automatically assuming that the independents are unthinking fools. Really the biggest fools would have to be the Nationals, they could have split from the coalition supported labour sidelined the independents they despise so much and secured similar rights for the country along with a royalties for regions program that would have seen some real change. Instead they continue to be the lap dog of the lib's for the country vote. The coalition did so much for the bush in it's last term like selling Telstra and AWB. Both disasters but some how the conservative position of rural voters seems to not allow them to vote otherwise. Some did and now we have our independents.
I would rather hope that the new parlament will debate more issues more openly and we will go to the next election with possibly not a lot done over the three years but much better informed about what is going on and where everyone really stands. As a rural voter I am happy about the money that will be coming our way even if it means a mining tax, city voters may complain about roads and transport but they should see the state of the public infrastructure in the bush. I live in cowper next door to lyne and i can tell you don't leave the Highway if you love your car it will die a fast death on these roads that's if the bridges are open yet after the 2009 floods. Considering both my state and federal members are Nationals don't wonder why i have no faith in them.

Foremer independent Ted Mack said something similar but without all the baggage.

His reason was that the independents are safer with Labor in government because Labor have no chance of winning their seats and would therefore try to keep those independents in power. That also means the constituents of those independent seats would be "looked after".

The LNP however, will be trying their hardest to take those seats for themselves by discrediting the independents as much as they could once an election is called.

Always vote for self-interest. It wins every time.

Also, Windsor's remark about Abbott "winning" another election was more about Abbott as PM calling another election as soon as he could and thereby causing instability.

Whether Abbott would "win" is another matter altogether, given that all he got nationally was a 1.5% swing, which could be clawed back with a more effective campaign from Labor (or the Greens)..

the phrase "verbose empty vessel" is a very apt summary of all the self-important strutting wind-bags that infest the IPA altogether.

And of course the empty vessels or the hollow men at the IPA are very much in favor of the situation criticized in the essay by Kellie Tranter on Water Trading on her Wednesday OLO posting.
