With this fortuitous Wiki 'leak' the US withdrawal from Afghanistan can be justified with minimal damage to Obama.

In connection with the Angels and Demons imagery of this erudite article it is only a vicious rumour that Abbott is the front man for the coldly avuncular Cardinal Pell http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cardinal_George_Pell .

Of the article - one must object to this depraved yet scandalous attempt at humour. It cuts to the very core of the human condition as we know it (Tolstoy via God).

The comparison in the second last para of the pugnacious Abbott to the the calculating (Cardinal zapper) Carlo Ventresca http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camerlengo_Carlo_Ventresca#Carlo_Ventrescputs the aggressive Ventresca in a very, very, bad, bad, gaga, light. Ventresca's sense of Pope electoral fun and murder is depicted so bambyly in Dan Brown's "Angels and Demons".

Both Abbott and Ventresca are fit and of Jesuit ironclad discipline but Ventresca has a little more charm http://www.aceshowbiz.com/still/00002679/angels_demons17.html and no boxer cauliflower ears.

It must be said that the coming election of Abbott promises the odd Inquisitision (Abbott the man who gaoled Hanson on his hit-list) scream. However the flagellating Hassassin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camerlengo_Carlo_Ventresca#Hassassin on the Coalition Front Bench (Minister for Health and Executions) would light up all our lives. The Hassassin is almost cuddily - look-at-im smile http://www.aneitascott.com/aneita/angels/janus.php :)

Australia, in short, needs to be saved from secular sin by the High Church and Abbott is the chosen one to do us.

And the allegations against the Abbott continue:

In 1998, Tony Abbott established a trust fund called "Australians for Honest Politics Trust" to help bankroll civil court cases against the One Nation Party and its leader Pauline Hanson.

Tony Abbott, a Federal Government Member of Parliament, extrordinarily abused his power by offering financial assistance to Summers and Sharples. According to an affidavit filed in the action, Abbott offered funds to One Nation's candidate for the seat of Noosa, David Summers, via Sharples to support the court battle against the party.

During the deregistration action in the Queensland Supreme Court, it was alleged that Abbott also offered funds to David Summers. Summers' official statement to the court addressed his withdrawal from the action which was based upon the lawfirm organized by Abbott who filed the action, had never obtained his permission to represent him as a Plaintiff.

Summers initially was to be a witness for prosecuting the action.
According to the Crime and Misconduct Commission Report of 2004 on the prosecution of Pauline Hanson, between July 1998 until early 1999 Mr Abbott had "considerable involvement with the civil litigation" by ongoing communications with Sharples.

Opposition MP Craig Emerson demanded to know where the money for the trust, reportedly $100,000, had come from, saying that taxpayers had a right to know. Treasurer Peter Costello said of Abbott's actions, "I don't think that the way to resolve political disputes is through the courts. I think the way to resolve it is at the ballot box."

The conviction against Hanson was ultimately overturned.

Abbott conceded that the political threat One Nation posed to the Howard Government was "a very big factor" in his decision to pursue the legal attack, but he also claimed to be acting "in Australia's national interest".

Mr Howard also defended Abbott's actions saying "It's the job of the Liberal Party to politically attack other parties - there's nothing wrong with that."
