By Lydia Bevege, published 9/8/2010

Introducing a quota for female representation within the Liberal Party would be a step back, not forward.

Good article, and funny too! Lydia, you are talking too much sense here where we are used to lampooning people who flagellate society over its imagined misdeeds.

Our Universities are so ensconced in 70's politics and ideology they have become the thought dinosaurs of the modern age not the leaders. Lets hope the Liberal Party does not fall into this trap.

Many cannot understand that by creating "quota queens" and special procedures for women they are treating women as having a disability requiring special consideration, thereby bringing the achievement of all women in elevated positions into question.

At the same time some less talented women see this as a way to get a lift to a role which, is in effect, beyond their capability.

Let true talent rise to the top. Male and Female together.

Well argued Lydia. Quotas would do more harm in what should be a merit based process.

It is not difficult to get preselected if you have intelligence and talent. Some might even argue it is not that hard to get preselected even if you don't have enough of either. :)
