What is interesting about Neve Gordon is the way he attacks those who think differently from him.

Ditto on Leigh.

...and if you make some points about the overall picture without condemning Israel you're a Zionist, or worse - according to them, a Jew. Check out the #Flotilla and/or #RachelCorrie streams on Twitter.

Neve, I hope this event helps you to get over your facebook-addiction. Young students can be quite silly, but a respectable professor should not involve himself with such immature games.

Israel is such a divided society. It is tragic that such different people, with practically nothing in common, must live together and fight alongside, supposedly as one nation. If not for the external existential threat, Israel would have disintegrated long ago (and some politicians understand too well that therefore they cannot afford peace).

Yet, the existential threat to Israel is a real fact of life and missiles fall on everyone's head regardless whether the ideas they hold inside are nice or ugly. The reason so few students demonstrated against their navy is not because all others support the government, but rather because no one likes to be hit by missiles and bombs, or have their child kidnapped at night through a tunnel from Gaza.

Face it: as bad as the Israeli government is, the rule of Hamas is much much worse!

Neve wrote: "they attack anyone who thinks differently from them, along with their total lack of self-criticism or restraint. If this is how students at Israel’s best universities respond, what can we expect from the rest of the population?"

In my experience of several years discussing Israel/Zionists/Jews in forums like this, "attacking anyone who thinks differently from them" is a common approach employed by Israel/Zionist/Jew supporters. Often, I suspect, making personal attacks is the only response left available to them, as attempts to justify Israel/Zionist/Jew behaviour by means of logical debate is obviously doomed to failure.
