By Keith Suter, published 25/5/2010

When campaigning NGOs need to move their message from the 'head' to the 'heart'.

But some of the quietly in the background environmental organizations have been communicating to the heart as well as the head for many years now. They also feature Spirituality, poetry, literature and art altogether.

For instance this organization which promotes the Small Is Beautiful paradigm promoted by E F Schumacher in the 70's.

Plus this organization too.

Of course these outfits attract little attention because of their relatively low non-dramatic profiles and activities.

It is very difficult for the usual (especially right-wing) media driven by their gotcha/trivialization lowest common denominator syndrome, to target these organizations.

Well Keith, what a long winded way of saying that we, [the greenie propaganda mill] are loosing the war.

No mate, it's not that we, the public, are paying less attention, but that we are paying more.

By paying more we have got away from the emotional claptrap you have been pushing for years, aided greatly by that media you now complain about.

We have seen that you have not a single fact to fly by, & despite billions of dollars wasted, looking for something real, you couldn't find any. Not because of any lack of effort, but because they just don't exist. Climategate was just the last straw.

Yes governments are still wasting billions of our money, looking for a new tax base, but they won't get it now.

You will have to find a new con now mate.

The one thing that ties together the campaign against religion and the campaign against AGW alarmism -- and the distinguishing feature of the New Atheism -- is the polite but insistent request for evidence. And bit by bit the message seems to be getting through. We have evidence-based medicine. Even the PM pays lip service to evidence-based policy making.

Ideological 'heart-based' decision-making dates from a time when it wasn't feasible to put large amounts of information in front of people in a digestible form. Those days are over. So if you want people to follow your recommendations, Keith, make sure the recommendations are rational and make sure they are supported by evidence; otherwise they will surely come unglued.
