Many economists say that resolving trade imbalances is easy - the Chinese should just let the renminbi appreciate.

Prof. Chen's analysis is logical economically but politically it is quite another question whether the Chinese Communist Party would let go of its control of resources, ecnonomic activities and political activities, etc. It is ruling Chinese society and the people the only way it knows how.
