Great piece by Sasha. It seems no one in the media is willing to examine the media tough guy/gal image that has been crafted by the media for so long and now clearly past its use by date.

Hidden within this article by Uzi is the incompetence of our national broadcaster, or more generously its country cousin relationship with its "Mum" the BBC. If the ABC is Aunty and the BBC is Mum, then we should, as should our minister for Communications - Stephen Conroy, ensure that Aunty too has a competent and even qualified Defence and Security correspondent as does Mum.

The ABC needs a person who has lived the culture and is familiar with both command and soldiering. Since the demise of Peter Young, Australia has bled for well informed comment on these issues. Issues that are costing the taxpayer of our nation an increasing proportion of its national budget, issues that cost lives of our service-personnel, and their families grief.

If we bathe in the words of journalist and politicians about the gallantry of soldiers such as Donaldson, we should also bathe in the incompetence of a command that is yet to even deploy medical evacuation helicopters for our Diggers in the Middle East. Something that both the commercial and our national broadcaster have yet to screw into the bowels of our political masters and mistresses, and there are more such examples deserving of analysis not just comment associated with the national feelgood of "Anzac"...

While I agree 'Yana the Bent' was entertaining her extreme left wing positions were something else .

While this culture captivates the Audience it leaves no room for the Audience to make up their own mind about issues .

After all coming to a 'Position' after examining the 'In's and 'outs', living in the Learning is what Democracy is all about .

Jana and her Ilk are really just "Hatchet Jobs" trading in Blood & Guts , the product your getting probably crushes your ethics.
