Of course, the AMPS might be giving too much credit to average Australians by not believing that they might actually want to be controlled by Big Brother, rather than taking responsibility for themselves. So much easier.

For the wider forum audience I read a great comment on Reddit which said:
"The USA is the "Land of the free". As such they had a really hard time getting people to comply with stay-at-home orders, masks, vaccines and social distancing. These restrictions impinge on personal freedoms, which in their culture is sacrosanct. Australia meanwhile is the "Land of the fair go". As such we don't mind some restrictions as long as it's "Fair". The difference between "freedom" and "fairness" doesn't often come up in a big way, but when you have a pandemic that threatens people's lives it seems fair to do our level-best to give those with compromised immune systems a fair chance at survival, even if that means giving up some personal freedom. So I disagree that we're "obsessed with rules" or that we're opening ourselves to authoritarianism. I think what we have is a stronger base to resist authoritarian overthrow - those who abuse their power would be viewed as "unfair" and would find themselves facing a much less compliant crowd." Thank God for Australians. Posted by SteeleRedux, Saturday, 6 August 2022 6:32:58 PM

Lockdowns, travel restrictions, masks, all came from the CCP rule book. China aside, Australia’s Covid totalitarianism was viewed with amazement by similar countries.
Australians today are ripe for serfdom. A 'fair go' and scorn for authority is a myth, not even talked about these days. A majority of Australians polled no longer feel that they can say what they want to. Woke has won. The fact that many of us still think things are they way they once were, heads up bums, and scornful of dissenters to Woke, will make it even easier for the political class. I would say 80% of Australians live in a daze, fooling themselves that she'll be right. Posted by ttbn, Saturday, 6 August 2022 7:51:21 PM

Dear Steele,
Well said. It may also interest people to know that the Australian Medical Professional Society (AMPS) is an employee union. They are part of the "Red Union" movement that began focusing on opposing rules from some states requiring all workers in high risk industries such as health care to be vaccinated, wear masks, et cetera. The Australian Council of Trade Unions secretary - Sally McManus has warned people to be careful of these organisations. They are false unions run by LNP and their associates (Malcolm Roberts is a huge supporter). This amounts to an anti-vax campaign which will directly cause working people to contract a deadly virus. There's more at the following: http://smh.com.au/politics/federal/fake-unions-new-associations-ride-jab-mandate-fears-to-get-members-20210929-p58vri.html Posted by Foxy, Saturday, 6 August 2022 8:01:17 PM

Thanks for the thread TTBN- Kudos.
"Red Unions"- interesting- there appears to be a movie released soon- is this red in the sense that the Republican Party is labelled as Red or in the sense that the communist party is Red. There has been some reference to the CFMEU being involved in Australia- or is this just CFMEU workers rather than leadership- remember the split between the members and leadership in the Melbourne protests as well as the crackdowns by the armoured militarized policeforce. ttbn, Among those living in Australia perhaps but among Australians it's an even greater percentage ! The snake & the stick of the medical symbol have been replaced by this $ symbol. Posted by Indyvidual, Sunday, 7 August 2022 8:11:31 AM

I have never heard of Red Unions, and don't care about them in the context of this post. I'm interested only in the fact that a medical group is prepared to push back against the AMA, which represents less than a quarter of doctors, and against the totalitarianism of the Australian political class and its sneaky bureaucrats - failed doctors - pulling their strings.
'Protection without politics' is the AMPS's motto. .The primacy of the doctor/patient relationship with Government bureaucrats being removed from the surgery room. .Make it easier for doctors to speak out publicly. Doctors are gagged by AHPRA. .Removal of AHPRA from monitoring doctors on social media and voicing their medical opinions. .Resisting Government Coercion. .The ability to speak out about refugee health without fear of de-registration. .Resisting Government mandates. .Resisting Government agencies running roughshod over doctors in what they can prescribe and recommend. "The freedom to take responsibility for your own life, family, business and community is fundamental to the Australian way of life. It is this freedom that attracts people from all over the world – it must be preserved and promoted" (Scott Hardgreaves, former federal MP and Executive Director of IPA)

Dear Foxy,
Thanks for for highlighting this. It really is part of the LNP playbook. Posted by SteeleRedux, Sunday, 7 August 2022 10:33:55 AM

Thanks Steele,
I found it rather upsetting that there are people who for personal or political gain choose to put the lives of others at risk - especially those who are the most vulnerable in our healthcare sectors. And for warnings issued about these "fake union" organisations - I guess says it all. Posted by Foxy, Sunday, 7 August 2022 10:39:30 AM

The far-right has attempted to radicalise by using the Covid pandemic as a blind to attack governments for their strong response to the crises. A parliamentary inquiry in Victoria has been told the state is becoming a hotbed for fringe groups to influence, particularly young people, into believing moderate governments are trying to restrict their personal freedoms and impose arbitrary restraints for no other reason than to exert control over their lives. Last year a rally that was supposedly a protest against mandatory vaccines in the construction industry soon turned violent as it attracted far-right agitators. These neo-Nazi's are not concerned with personal freedoms at all, in fact given power they would soon trash any semblance of "personal freedoms", they are more concerned with destabilisation of the social order to meet their political objectives.
BTW, we should be very concerned with anything the political extremist Malcolm Roberts involves himself with. Posted by Paul1405, Monday, 8 August 2022 5:26:00 AM

In adherence to Conquest's second law of politics ("Any organization not explicitly right-wing sooner or later becomes left-wing") it was inevitable that the AMA would be captured by the left.
That happened some time ago but doctors, being more concerned with things other than politics, weren't particularly perturbed one way or t'other. But as with most things covid-related, long simmering issues came to a head. It is shocking for some doctors to be threatened with deregistration for failing to tow the government line on vaccines and lockdowns and it's therefore inevitable that a body in opposition to the AMA would be formed. They will, of coarse, be ignored by the media and government who will continue to pretend that the AMA speaks for all doctors, but their very presence will offer continued hope that the politicisation of medicine can be arrested. Concerned about the "growing evidence" around the world that information has been withheld from public view, and that doctors have been bullied if they dare question any data related to Covid, the AMPS intends "standing up for medical transparency" to ensure open scientific debate.
AMPS members are refusing to be silenced, "even under threats to our registrations". They are concerned that regulatory bodies have forced compliance to medical mandates rather than leaving risk as a matter of personal choice.
The AMPS stands for 'medical transparency and open scientific debate'.
The AMPS says that the government regulator, AHPRA, has warned doctors and nurses not to question publicly government and public health directives, including those related to Covid, effectively gagging them with threats to their registration. Many professionals have been disciplined or suspended.
