I was so excited to learn of Penny Wong's visit to
Fiji as Foreign Minister. I listened to her speech which was awesome. I wished her well on her endeavours to establish meaningful relations in the Pacific - which it appears she did. She moved beyond the mindset of Downer, Abbott, and Morrison's superiority and tokenism. If anyone could do it. She could. And did! Thank You Penny Wong! It's the Chinese who are worried about a naval blockage - hence the military buildup in their region to protect their seaways until they finalise overland international rail routes (also vulnerable).
All of their goods travel via that surface route and there are about 400 US military bases around China in what one of their generals called "a perfect noose" plus we have participated in military naval war games nearby so they are entitled to feel nervous. It was the US blockade of Japan that provoked Pearl Harbour. Posted by rache, Sunday, 29 May 2022 1:09:36 AM

Hey Rache,
China's problem is with the way the West talks out both sides of it's mouth on the Taiwan issue. Officially - their position is supposed to be supporting the One China policy, - That Taiwan will again become a part of China someday under peaceful reunification. Unofficially, they are doing everything to ensure this never happens. http://thehill.com/policy/international/581683-biden-restates-commitment-to-one-china-policy-on-taiwan-in-call-with-xi/ http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/may/25/biden-defend-taiwan-china-invasion Posted by Armchair Critic, Sunday, 29 May 2022 4:55:18 AM

Answer- I tend to think it was Perry's Black Ships a century before that caused Pearl Harbour. Posted by Canem Malum, Sunday, 29 May 2022 10:09:11 AM

Rache,
The US did not blockade Japan, it simply refused to sell them oil until Japan stopped attacking its neighbours. As Japan in 1940 got 90% of its oil from the US this made things difficult for them. Posted by shadowminister, Monday, 30 May 2022 8:10:50 AM

To get the Liberal Party back on track - they need to
listen to voters and consider their party's core
values as well as come up with solid policies and plan
to address the many problems that face Australia. This
election they failed in their primary objective and
they deserved to be replaced.
The government started a long election campaign having
no real policies and even fewer plans. They had been caught
out so many times when they could have displayed forward
thinking and planning. Robert Ellis writes in The Spectator
Australia - it's no use telling an electorate that -
"We have done better than others," or that opponents would
be worse unless they have some concrete plans in all sorts
of areas including education, defence, economy, energy and these
are disseminated by the whole team.
The old tactics no longer work as Alexander Downer's mindset
proved on Q and A last night. The party does not need dinosaurs
like him to hold them back. The UAP is another example where
one hundred million dollars was spent in their advertising
campaigns with the end result being - not one single seat
acquired.
