Belly,

With the Tories on 40 % of the vote, and Labour on 24 %, I suspect that Corbyn is playing the game of being the perennial underdog, who tries soooo hard but can't get anything done because of those other nasty people, it's not his fault, he's suffering the slings and arrows, etc.. i.e. a guaranteed loser, pretending he's trying to win.

Dear Belly,

It appears that the Irish are concerned about borders
being put up once again once Brexit has happened if
Britain has its way. And people are scared that it
will be a return to the violence of the past.

Fingers-crossed this won't happen.
But things are in a bit of a mess at the moment.
And who knows where it will all end.

The Irish want to keep the border open - it's good for
business and family connections. But if Brexit goes
ahead as planned, the borders may go up again.
It's one of the negotiating items.

cont'd ...

Dear Belly,

A further possibility is that new borders may be created
if Scotland and Wales breaks away from England to stay
in the EU. (smile). The Scots definitely want to
break away and so do the true Welsh.

Loudmouth/Foxy indeed, and that is the reason I think the thread can be interesting
British Labour[ they spell it differently] is a mess
In truth a win would be stranger than Trump's
Ireland? well, a border mess the likely outcome
Scotland may well leave the English soon
And a will they or won't they current is asking will Britain ever leave the EU
Even should they

Dear Belly,

I don't believe that Britain should leave the EU.
England has always been a part of Europe. Over the
centuries it has been settled by people from mainland Europe
today we see on English TV programs the number of English
people re-locating to mainland Europe for their retirement.
In today's shrinking world, it is better to be a part of
a bigger entity than to exist in isolation.

Look at what Trump's doing to America. His isolationist
policy will take years if not decades for America to
recover. Today we hear rumblings of their states wanting
to break away. Surely the UK politicians can't be as
irrational as American politicians?

I believe eventually that sanity has got to prevail.

Dear Foxy,

As a fellow-Remainer, I worry that a hard Irish border would mean scrapping the Good Friday Agreement, and the IRA going back to guerrilla war. That might give more impetus to a Scottish Independence referendum, and maybe even a Welsh one, as you perceptively point out. And perhaps even one in northern Ireland, to break from the UK and join in a United Ireland at last.

It's almost inconceivable that there weren't guidelines in place about the validity of a referendum BEFORE the referendum - that a change in the status quo (i.e. stay in the EU) had to be passed by, say, 55 % or 60 % of the electorate. [Of course, he would say that, wouldn't he, being a Remainer ?]

Were some of the implications of a 'Leave' campaign spelt out fully ? Didn't anybody think about customs and immigration and travel arrangements ? British people owning property in the rest of Europe, and vice versa ? Whatever problems there were in remaining in the EU, could they have been battled out in the European Parliament ? Especially some of the more idiotic bureaucratic diktats ?

Too ridiculous. Like putting the Hadron collider in the hands of chimps.

Love,

Joe
