ttbn,
There should be a Law that stops all those little ads jumping in at ever click. I think that this is where a lot of malware is delivered. It's insane that our ISP let's that happen ! Videos are insidiously playing in the corner without sound so they're easily overlooked. God only knows how many times I have turned off Auto Play on Youtube yet everytime I look at footage there goes Autoplay again. Why doesn't internet Law demand no Autoplay ? Too much money to be syphoned off ? Internet Law really hasn't done its job ! Posted by individual, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 7:36:02 AM

I find those little videos particularly annoying, and they rarely have anything to do with the site you've opened. I pause them before do anything else. Still, it seems that most people don't care, and they deserve whatever is done to them. You only have watch these nightly 'current affairs' programs to see how gullible - stupid- so many people are when it comes to scammers. Crocodiles do not eat intelligent people; scammers do not scam intelligent people.

ttbn,
How good is Windows Defender, is it worthwhile installing it instead of the paid for protection I now have. I am starting to get sick of the constant requests to 'upgrade'. One still hears of people getting ripped off using pc banking. I still do not do banking via the pc as I do not trust the method. I do use a debit card at times but definately prefer cash transactions or pay by cheque. Posted by HenryL, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 11:16:56 AM

Henry,
It comes free with Windows 10 and is OK with Windows 7 as far as I know. Prior to getting Windows 10, I had no 'security' at all following constant badgering and price increases from McAfee. I do Billpay. Never had a problem. I used to transfer money until my financial institution went overboard with security', making the process a nightmare. I use a debit card only, too; but are you aware that the banks will standby sums up to your credit limit if you are gipped out of funds online, but you get diddly squat when using your own money with a debit card Posted by ttbn, Tuesday, 13 August 2019 1:30:44 PM

Dear HenryL,
Dear God, did you really install MacAffee? Mmmm. Here is a tip or two for uninstalling that vile piece of crap from the founder of the company, yes it really is him. Be forewarned there is a little bit of swearing involved. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bKgf5PaBzyg I personally have run with Defender for many years primarily because it is designed for Windows and has far less call on computer resources than the others. The small hit on security levels is more than made up for in computer speed. Posted by SteeleRedux, Wednesday, 14 August 2019 2:58:39 PM

Yesterday, it was revealed that Windows Defender, available FREE with Windows 10 was among the top 10 for protection. I know of a person who had one of to the best known, expensive 'security' providers helping themselves his bank account when they were not entitled to. The company blamed a rogue ex-employee, but who knows.
