This global warming/ climate change problem really is getting dire. We've now been reliable advised that the planet only has 10 years to fix the emissions issues before its too late and environment and economic disaster will become a certainty.

For example we have this information from U.N. Environment Program (UNEP)....

* " entire nations could be wiped off the face of the Earth by rising sea levels if the global warming trend is not reversed"

* "Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of eco- refugees, threatening political chaos"

* " governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control"

* "ocean levels will rise by up to three feet, enough to cover the Maldives and other flat island nations"

* A fifth of Egypt’s arable land in the Nile Delta would be flooded, cutting off its food supply"

* "Shifting climate patterns would bring back 1930s Dust Bowl conditions to Canadian and U.S. wheatlands"

* The most conservative scientific estimate that the Earth’s temperature will rise 1 to 7 degrees in the next 30 years"

* "there’s nothing we can do now to stop a ... change of about 3 degrees."

Oh, did I forget to mention that all of those prediction were made 30 years ago? http://www.apnews.com/bd45c372caf118ec99964ea547880cd0

None of it actually happened. What did happen is that the dire warnings were just updated and everyone was supposed to forget the old failed warnings. Polar bears to be wiped out? Nup. Arctic to be ice free in 7 years? Nup. Temperature rise of 1-7 degrees? Nup.

Its like those cults which constantly predict the return of the Christ and just forget and realign each failed prediction, with the cultists believing the new prediction just a fervently as the old.

And so now we have a new 10 year prediction for 2030. Yep we've got ten years before its all over folks... http://www.theguardian.com/environment/2018/oct/08/global-warming-must-not-exceed-15c-warns-landmark-un-report

Here's a prediction you can take to the bank; come 2030 there'll be a prediction we've only got 10 years to save the world.

Dear mhaze,

Good lord mate read the bloody thing properly will you.

It states they considered they had ten years to stop the emission escalating to a degree that warming will be inevitable resulting long term in the types of events described.

They were spot on. The world has warmed by about a degree and some of the predicted events will now be inevitable. Now it is just about limiting the damage.

Quote;

Across the US the average temperature has risen almost two degrees Fahrenheit since the start of the 20th century. And that’s only the beginning, says Bill Collin, who directs climate and ecological science at Lawrence Berkeley National Lab.

"We released enough carbon dioxide to continue warming the climate for several centuries to come," Collins says.

And he says that means a certain amount of future warming is already "baked in, if you will."

In other words, going back to that popcorn metaphor, even if you hit the stop button on the oven, some of those kernels will keep popping.

"If we were to stop emissions entirely of all greenhouse gases right this minute," Collins says, "we'd see roughly another half a degree centigrade by the end of the 21st century."

End quote.

Oh dear, SR.

Just making it up again....

"The world has warmed by about a degree"

WRONG. Depending on your favourite dataset the world has warmed between 0.4 and 0.6 c since 1989. They said between 1 and 7 c. Not even close.

None. NONE of their other prediction have come to pass or are even close to coming true. For example, "Coastal flooding and crop failures would create an exodus of eco-refugees threatening political chaos". You (and they)might want to pretend that they were talking about some indeterminate time in the future but they did actual produce maps showing 50 million climate refugees by 2010. Didn't happen, did it. Solution...the maps and the claims were memory-holed. And now we are told.."Tens of millions of people will be forced from their homes by climate change in the next decade". The more things change.....

"Across the US the average temperature has risen almost two degrees Fahrenheit since the start of the 20th century."

Well apart from the fact that that is wrong, i also isn't relevant since the issue is temperature post 1989.

The rest of your irrelevant article is just another example of what I was talking about ie ignore our previous warnings but totally believe our current warnings.

As to your silly assertion that they were talking about all these problems occurring at some point in the distant future, they said..."He said governments have a 10-year window of opportunity to solve the greenhouse effect before it goes beyond human control."

They didn't "solve the greenhouse effect" within those 10 years did they? But is the problem "beyond human control" now, or in 2001? If so, then there's no point worrying and destroying economies when its already beyond our control. If its not beyond our control (and cries to cut emissions would suggest the alarmists think we still have control) then their warnings were wrong and mere alarmism. You can't have it both ways although the cognitive dissonance of your average alarmist would suggest otherwise.

Just as their current 10 year warning is wrong and mere alarmism.

In 10 years time it will be another 10 years before doomsday. They keep on adjusting it as the are proved to be big fat liars. The liars will die still predicting that the end is nigh.

Mhaze, one item in the predictions will happen whether global warming happens or not.
The Egyptians will starve.
Agriculturists believe that the Nile can support 40 million people.
Their intense agriculture has achieved that, but the population is now near 80 million.
They have covered the difference with sales of oil and gas.
The catch is depletion. Oil production has fallen right off, ie peak oil.
The government has in recent years been reducing the subsidies for food.
It was riots over food costs the tipped out Mubarik.
Not sure of gas situation at present.

Hey they forgot about Charlie.

Didn't Prince Charles recently tell the British parliament that there was only 18 months left to save the world? I rather like Charlie, & I can imagine that serving a 50 year apprenticeship for a job you are supposed to get sometime could do things to your brain.

At least Charles has a reason to have gone dotty, what reason do our warmists have for going the same way? Some of course simply believe what their religion/politics tell them, some have gone potty like Charles, & some obviously have skin in the game or a seat on the gravy train to support. [Hi SR].

Most will probably be still preaching the scam as they freeze to death, unable to afford the "FREE" alternately generated electricity to heat their homes, as the new little ice age closes in on us. I do know that this is the coldest winter in my 27 years living in this house, & the cost of power to heat it even a little, the highest by far. So much for free energy from the wind & sun.

In my opinion, I believe there's more of a likelihood we'll be at war with China in the next ten years. Rather than worrying about a one-degree increase in temperature, in this global warming fallacy?

Of coarse the 10 year rule still applies. In the US now, the Democrats have a policy called the Green New Deal. Its claimed that this policy is designed to address the problem that we've only got 12 years to save the planet.." ‘The world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change and your biggest issue is how are we gonna pay for it?’”"

On the other hand, the main author of the Green New Deal has told supporters..

"“The interesting thing about the Green New Deal, is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all,”... “Do you guys think of it as a climate thing?” Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing,”

http://dailycaller.com/2019/07/11/saikat-chakrabarti-green-new-deal/

Climate change advocacy has always been about a backdoor method of getting what the socialists really want.

Hey O Sung Wu,
Think of the temperature increase from 'mutually assured destruction'.

Also there will be a war with Iran, it's not if but when.

It will be China we must fight
Maybe Russia too and maybe Trump's America will leave us to fight alone
But whatever climate change will continue and that much is true
We right here in this country, face the worst bushfire period in our history, believe it, the bush is knee deep in dead brush waiting to burst into flame
Nothing like it beforehand let us hope after

G'day there ARMCHAIR CRITIC...

You may well be right, and Climate Change is already occurring? The problem with C.C. it seems to engender divided scientific, as well as public opinion? About six months ago on 2GB's Alan JONES Breakfast Show, he was interviewing this eminent bloke from England, a Lord 'something or other'. Ostensibly an expert on the study of Climate per se, and during the interview, he virtually debunked the theory of Climate Change altogether.

Whereas on the other hand, we see and hear, a plethora of scientific opinion saying C C is already happening; in fact, the world's temperature is up by almost a degree? Accordingly, I'm very much a pragmatist and blue-collar. So asking me, would be a waste of time because I wouldn't know?

But being a Veteran, I tend to take much more notice of the activities of a potential aggressor, like China or the Middle East, then climate change, an area that I know nothing about whatsoever? I guess that makes me a dope?

The latest studies indicates that global warming might be occurring but
that sometime in the future it will reverse.
It is said that it has nothing to do with what humans do or don't do.
I have always been unconvinced on the co2 cause and it seems I could
well have been right.
There is nothing we can do about it so just put on your seat belt and
hang on.
Which ever belief we had we will have a major mental reset to do.
I always had the belief that the amount of economically accessible
oil and coal could not cause AGW.
I hope the Finnish paper is published soon and the real discussion
can get under way.

10 years left to save the world
In those ten years we could put a stop to Academics entering politics, we could stop supplying modern commodities to Environmentalists, we could cut back of frivolous activities i.e. emission-spewing motor sport, we could cut back on plastics production, we could cut back emission-spewing air travel, etc etc and, that's only our Western society.

Careful there Shadow Minister, your prejudices are showing. Why would you single out motor sport for elimination, when on every weekend much more CO2 is generated by football fans & players at every level getting to games. The same goes for fishermen, water skiers & others buzzing around in boats, planes & probably hot air balloons.

Actually we should be subsidising these activities rather than fool windmills & solar panels. After all, if you believe oil & coal is the product of dead dinosaurs, with these activities all we are doing is returning to the atmosphere the CO2 that those dinosaurs stole when they consumed the flora of their day. They with untold billions of sea creatures sequestered the CO2 that flora needs to survive.

Truth be told, these same climate activists, yabbering on about global warming will want us to burn in situ, all the low grade coal not worth mining to try to stave off the coming little, [or major] ice age, with the CO2 produced. Of course all the CO2 thus produced would have as much effect on warming the planet as lighting a match in your lounge room would have on warming the room, but useful idiots will be useful idiots, no matter what the cause.

Runner said;why Bazz? there are multitudes of real challengers instead
of indulging in such nonsense

Well previously I thought it might well have been nonsense because it
seemed in improbable that warming was caused by CO2.
However now somweone comes up with 'yet to be proven" that it is
natural and co2 has no effect. Cause suggested cosmic rays and cloud cover.
To me that sounds much more plausable, and that it will decline again
when the cosmic ray count drops again.

Incidentally, while looking around for more info on the above I found
that there is a group of universities in the UK that have a different
theory that warming is caused by the wobble in the orbit of the earth
around the sun, and the variation in the ellipse of earths orbit.
It is beginning to look like no one is accepting CO2 and have looked
for another answer.
I'll bet someone will say it is the coal companies behind it.

Hasbeen,
I think you're referring to my post. I didn't 'single out' Motor sport as such but being one of the most obvious frivolous, polluting activities makes it a perfect example for my argument. The fact that you're a motor sport enthusiast has no bearing on this hence my typing etc etc.
