Paris To Cost Us $70 Billion By 2030

Australia’s commitment to the Paris Climate Agreement will cost Australia $70 billion in cumulative economic losses by 2030.

That’s what Brian Fisher, former head of the Australian Bureau of Agriculture and Resource Economics thinks.

It will also cause a 2% reduction in real wage growth, plus around 80,000 fewer jobs.

Throw in an IPA estimate that Paris will increase the cost of electricity generation by $52 billion, and it’s not a good look.

The Coalition could have guaranteed their re-election by ripping up the Paris agreement. It is clear that they have no intention of doing that, and voters seem excited about getting lots of ‘free’ stuff from Labor, which will make things even worse.

Australia is rooted.

So, not particularly more than LNP’s stuffup of the NBN to protect vested interests.
Yawn.
Climate change doesn’t care what it costs us. If *you* care, start early.

'Only' $70 billion ? I suppose the European banks can lend us that money to pay the costs of meeting Paris.

What is the cost of 2 gigawatts of round the clock renewable energy? With some generous assumptions I stopped when I got over thirty billion dollars and I think that fifty billion dollars might be more realistic. Nuclear technology from South Korea could do the same for less than fifteen billion dollars. More expensive than coal to install, but cheap and reliable when it is up and running.

Pursuing a renewable fantasy is gross stupidity.

you can guarantee that the likes of Burnside won't be paying for it. It will be the dumbed down school students who will be out carrying placards tomorrow instead of learning something useful.
