Just received a missive from RMS re renewal of car registration, included in the envelope was a flyer advertizing new carbon fibre number plates, which according to the blurb are a better plate than those ordinarily issued.

I'm wondering why the best plates are not the issued ones?

Perhaps the $180 cost to upgrade to the better plate has something to do with it.

One would think that the most effective plate, in terms of recognition and visibility and consequent safety would be the best and that plates that meet those criteria should be the issue registration plates.

Just like personalized number plates for extra money, some public servant has thought of another way to get money out of gullible people.

Surprised they don't promote them as environmentally friendly or some con name like that.

Don't be so silly Is Mise, what on earth gave you the idea that number plates have anything to do with safety?

They are only there to raise money. First by charging ridiculous amounts of money for the right to drive on the roads, then to raise even more, by knowing who you are, & sending you fines for not complying with the current road rules.

Hell, keep this up & next you will start expecting the road rules to have some basis in safety. I'm surprised at you.

Maybe the carbon fiber plates add 10 kmph to your top speed and stop bullets?

They come with a built in microchip to raise more revenue perhaps ? A GPS tracker maybe.
