In earlier times it was Labor fighting Liberal Party in elections. Now it's the "Rudd / Turnbull" government for personalities not policy as in US administrations with army saluting a PM on planes.
The Gov Gen is saluted as head of state and Thatcher in UK broke the rule to be saluted at a parade when salute should be for monarch. Pollies have a talent for that.
