While am the first to call on the banks to do more of the heavy lifting, the reality is, the banks are nothing like the miners.

Unlike miners, who have billions invested in infrastructure, materials and forward contracts, the banks literally have four walls and a phone line. Huge difference.

The risk we face is that the banks can simply pack up the majority of thier operations and take them elsewhere.

I have little doubt the banks will pass on the proposed tax, (if it passes and thats a huge if) however if they dont, then dont be surprized if they choose to go elsewhere.

It will be interesting see how much the senate knocks back, seeing the budget is a Labor look-alike.

in essence the banks will pass this on to lenders. Another tax by a labour like Government. Regulators trying to prevent this passed on will be as useful as fuelwatch (basically useless).

The senate will have no favoritism, depends what is proposed. What we hear and what gets presented can be two entirely different things, as well as what is piggy backing in the legislation.

Where on earth do you get this 'far right' stuff from? The government is led by a out-and-out socialist. The treasurer has just brought down a socialist budget. The government resoundedly kicked out the only vaguely right wing politician - Tony Abbott. Cory Bernadi has left the party. Just where are are all these 'far right' politicians who upset you?

While doog is coming up with his list of 'far right' politicians in the Coalition, it appears that Morrison's first tax increase to fall at the senate will be the increase in the Medicare levy. Labor won't wear it, neither will the cross-benchers, according to ABC Newsradio. Labor would go for an extra tax on the top 2% of earners, of course.

Doog probably thinks Shorten is centrist.
