If, as I think the UN states Chemical, nerve gases are WMD, then they did have them.
However if you delete them then Iraq did not appear to have nuclear weapons.
However they did have a program to produce nuclear weapons.
They bought a prototype centrifuge from Germany with the apparent
intention of building what they needed.
The scientists involved were known by name.
I suspect that everyone knew that a weapon had not been produced.
I saw Saddam holding up a device he called part of a nuclear trigger
device and boasting that the west had tried to stop Iraq obtaining
the components they needed but they still obtained what they needed.
Did the west worry that they had produced a weapon ?
Could they afford to be wrong ?
After Iraq was occupied a search for the uranium etc was undertaken
but was not found. Several years later traces of radio active material
was found in an under road culvert in Southern Iraq.
It was thought that it had been a temporary storage location.
It seems likely that no one will ever know what happened to the
material and documents that had been stored there.
