There is some confusion of what is meant by confirmed WMD.
If, as I think the UN states Chemical, nerve gases are WMD, then they did have them.
However if you delete them then Iraq did not appear to have nuclear weapons.
However they did have a program to produce nuclear weapons.
They bought a prototype centrifuge from Germany with the apparent
intention of building what they needed.
The scientists involved were known by name.
I suspect that everyone knew that a weapon had not been produced.
I saw Saddam holding up a device he called part of a nuclear trigger
device and boasting that the west had tried to stop Iraq obtaining
the components they needed but they still obtained what they needed.

Did the west worry that they had produced a weapon ?
Could they afford to be wrong ?

After Iraq was occupied a search for the uranium etc was undertaken
but was not found. Several years later traces of radio active material
was found in an under road culvert in Southern Iraq.
It was thought that it had been a temporary storage location.
It seems likely that no one will ever know what happened to the
material and documents that had been stored there.

It's amazing how stories change from one thing to another.

The WMD's the West was looking for were scud missiles.
From my memory I think there was talk about bigger scud missiles that were more accurate.
Israel was very worried.

At the time of George Bush jnr attacking Iraq there was never any news about chemical weapons of mass destruction.
News was about WEAPONS of mass destruction.

The chemical aspect now associated with WMD's suddenly became mentioned when no WMD's were found in Iraq.

Destruction is destruction. Check Wiki.
Destruction primarily refers to:
The concept of damage to an object, system, being or idea, as in legal damages and physical vandalism.

There is nothing about mass killing or mass murder.

As for the relevant use of Sarin gas in Syria the first news reports were about the attack being by an unidentified aircraft.

Now it's missiles from the airbase.

It seems there is reasonable doubt about about various 'evidence'.

I all the superpowers teamed together there could be prosperity and peace instead of ongoing war.

JF Aus, There were definitely gas weapons in Iraq's arsenal.
They were used to attack a Kurdish village whose name I have forgotten
although it might have started with a M.
Remember Chemical Ali ?
I remember the photos of civilians lying dead in the streets.

Also they used them in their war with Iran.
All that was long before the US invasion.

I think it is pointless the west getting involved.
Let them slaughter each other and not let them leave as refugees.
That will keep the younger men in the middle east and they can sort
it all out themselves. However I guess that is an optimistic view as
it has been going on for so long I doubt if it will ever end.
It is a demonstration of their behaviour problem on a national scale.
It is built in and there is nothing we can do about it.

We need to establish "stand off" policies while we can as it will get
very much worse as the money dries up in the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia.
