Court system close to collapse because of 7,000 refugee cases
THE justice system in the German capital Berlin is verging on collapse as refugees flood the courts with lawsuits.

The legal claims are related to the asylum seekers' status as refugees.

"This will paralyse us for years," one unidentified judge was quoted in the Tagesspiegel newspaper.

The number of lawsuits filed by migrants in Berlin has hit nearly 7,000 in 2016 - nearly 5,000 more than in the whole of last year.

Administrative court spokesman Stephan Groscurth said: "If it carries on like this the number of unsettled court actions will have doubled by the end of the year."

Lawsuits in the capital from refugees - the majority of them Syrians - are now being bundled into packs of 50 and distributed to overworked judges throughout the capital.

Because the refugees can apply for legal aid there is no cost to them to file the legal claims, most of which relate to either their bid to remain or seek to have family members come to join them.

Well that is the civil courts, the criminal courts are in a bad way.
There was more than 150,000 offences committed by immigrants this year.
