Yes, you're right about China's long history of no-democracy, which surely must seep very deeply into, and dictate, the 'culture'.

I didn't realise maps had such a long history. 85,000 years. And indisputably Chinese ? What, before people had even left Africa ? I wonder how you could tell that a scratch-mark on a stone was Chinese: which Chinese ? Two thousand years ago, there were a hundred warring kingdoms, each aspiring to be 'China'. But 83,000 years before that, it had already been decided which kingdom would be 'China'? In writing ? You learn something every day.
